Walter splits his working week between a cooperage stall near the Gooderham & Worts distillery and repair work at Fort York’s Stone Powder Magazine.
Where You Meet Him
At the tavern, on your first night — probably holding the room’s attention, and definitely being good-naturedly ribbed about his fondness for Sable, the tiefling who runs the trip hammer floor at the fort’s forge.
His Two Jobs
At the cooperage near the distillery, he and one apprentice make and repair barrels. At the powder magazine, his work is upkeep — re-hooping, resealing, and patching the barrels that hold the fort’s gunpowder. New empty barrels arrive by supply wagon from York; Walter keeps the old ones sound.
Why He Is Useful
Because he is fond of Sable, Walter hears things secondhand from the forge before anyone outside it would. Befriend him early and he becomes a soft entry point into news you have not yet earned the right to hear firsthand.
He is not a quest-giver. He is a decent man with a good ear, and treating him as a person rather than a resource will get you considerably further.
